Description
The Byzantine temple of Saint Vasilios in Methoni is located two kilometers north of Methoni, on the way to Pylos. It is a cruciform temple dating back to the 11th century. Over the centuries, it has suffered many abuses. The towering Byzantine church is evidence that the area has been inhabited and densely populated for many years. The stones of the building are porous and are believed to come from the catacombs of St. Onoufrios, which are nearby.
