The most famous beach in Messinia, and probably the most photographed, is Voidokilia. It is well sign posted from the village of Petrohori. A deserted crescent of fine sand, it appears to have the form of the Greek letter Ω.
A hike up the far southern headland to the remains of the ‘Old Castle’ affords the most wonderful views of Gialova Lagoon and the amazing landscape that is protected by the NATURA 2000 program. Being an area of archaeological importance, along with the uniqueness of the natural habitat, means this beach does not have any modern facilities ~ bring your own supplies and umbrella and remember the motto “take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints and kill nothing but time!”
